I found this article to be pretty good regarding "Salam Pax", the Iraqi blogger. It's quite in-depth and gives a great deal of background on his past posts, etc.

I'm still totally addicted to The Command Post. It really is the most comprehensive news coverageand their coverage of both the news of the war and the opinions regarding it are expansive beyond the imagination.

I also keep my handy-dandy "AutoRefresh for IE" running on this page and check it on-and-off throughout the day and night while I'm doing other stuff... I also keep FeedReader, my RSS news aggregator running constantly. (If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, read Dave Winer's informative peice "What is a News Aggregator?" I'm relatively new to RSS myself, but I have found it to be - hands down - the coolest Internet feature I've discovered in years.

I'm a reader more than a watcher of news... Some people can spend hours watching CNN or FoxNews. I prefer the web for its (usually) "unfiltered" and customizable style. I get emotionally worn down watching CNN, especially thinking about the people that I know and love who are currently in the Persian Gulf, but my mind gets cranking instead of my heart when I'm reading well-written stuff.

(And of course, in addition to my Command Post, FeedReader, Daypop, and Popdex addictions, I check Daypop and Popdex throughout the day for the most linked to and the most looked at news and blog articles.) At least I can't be faulted for not being "up" on current events, right?

And speaking of Daypop... through a link there came this article. My response: Is this guy on crack or what?

Poor Ry... He had a great idea. He was going to sell Rad T-Shirts... but somebody beat him to it with a similar design. But don't worry, loyal fans, Ryan reports that he has pre-sold 8 shirts and, Ryan added quickly, he "knows other people who will buy them." Plus, he registered a web site! It's not up yet, but it's going to be the best!! Woo! RADTSHIRTS.com is on its way, world! And the world will soon be knocking down Ryan's door for these Amazing Rad T-Shirts, which are way better than these other guys. One of his competitor's T-Shirts is kind of cute, though, in a dorky sort of way. Ryan wishes his competition only the best of luck. "I'm going to beat the holy stinking living crap out of those guys," Ryan said in a recent interview. "ebay? Ha! I'm taking these straight RETAIL!" He also added, "they best be not stepping up on these shirts, dog." Here is Ryan's shirt along with its (fierce) competition. Please excuse the horrible grammar and confusion of this post as I was laughing so hard while writing it that I now have the hiccups.

Analysis: How allies are winning on ground, Iraqis on TV Close to something that Newsweek predicted before the war.

Images of death, violence shock Arabs: "Fifteen-year-old Mohammed Abbas, said that if he will ever see an American in Bahrain, he will personally attack him. 'It is my right to do so. If they can attack Iraqis and kill them for no reason, then I can do the same.'" --- Yikes! Score one for the camp that argues this war will equip and not disarm terrorists of the future.

As a side note, do not visit Al-Jazeera's site. You will be mortified and sickened. I was going there through a partial arabic translation service to get additional news coverage... until this morning, when I stumbled upon the most horrific images I've ever seen in my life. My take on showing the horror of war on TV? Don't. Everyone in the world knows that war is horrible. Everyone knows that innocent people are killed in war. Everyone knows that this war - just like all wars - should end as soon as possible, whether the war is "wrong" or "right". Why would we need to see the kinds of things that traumatize soldiers for years? Yes, it's free speech... but free speech should be combined with responsible journalism and photographers should give the victims the dignity they deserve.

The Command Post says it "makes CNN look like the school newspaper." (Not sure about that tag-line, but it's still a pretty good war news site very regularly updated). So is The Agonist.

A lot like Daypop, only it's Popdex -- not as fully-featured as Daypop, but I think it has a more complete listing of popular links and it has a bit better layout. Or check out their war-only site.

A good rebate/sale blog with some good deals at More Stuff 4 Less! ... If only they wouldn't turn numbers into words.

Wow! I can draw! And it's not even in Paint!

And... holy stinking crap! It's Zelda... in Flash!

For those of you who have noticed that Salam disappeared the morning of the start of the "Shock and Awe" bombing campaign, he's back! Check it out here.
