You know, I remember three days ago when this site was first published. It still had that new site smell, the tags were still on, and the puke stain wasn't covered up with a bleach stain yet.

Yes, I even remember writing this, all those days ago:
It's a blog! Wow. It's a blog. I have a blog. I wonder if I should get it cut off. Maybe it's infected.

But seriously, look at the stats. Woo! This is a 7.6 times increase in web traffic -- all the way from 4 hits per day to 51 hits per day in the course of three days.

Yeah, it's great to be able to look back on all the hard work that's gone into making this dream a reality... and just sit and sigh, while drinking our Toffee Nut Latte'. Not you, me. Give my latte' back, jerk.

Here's something better than Mesmer's Alanis Morisette Lyrics Generator, but also at Brunching: "I could destroy them with pretzels!" and A Review of Danger Signals.

I suppose it's a cheap shot at our friend Lavidas -- or "Ladidas" - or whatever -- but, quite frankly, I don't see anything funny about Alanis Morisette. She's a serious artist who should be taken seriously... (out of her misery, if you ask me.) Naw, just joshin'... she should be hung in public!

And... I have no idea what on earth that "Click the Cross" thing was, but it's strangely haunting. Just like the one and only ad I've seen for "Are You HOT?" ... Just a pair of boxers, shaking at the screen. I cannot escape it... and I have not returned to TV since that horrible, horrible day.

Mesmer: Poland has hopes and dreams?
[Posted by adam.b at 8:19 PM] comment on [Poland?] permalink
See if you recognize anyone in this band label.

I'm not sure if they're still touring...

Here's something interesting I found at brunching.com.

As for my top ten (well, top four anyway):

It's not like I've given up on rock, I just find myself listening to the classics more and more. How classic you may ask?

Sonata. Op 35 - Frederick Chopin
This is an amazing composition, most probably arising from lonely nights in Paris among the plague and news from home of revolution. The piece is played grave, and is best known for it's third movement, commonly referred to as the Funeral March (dum, dum dum dum, de, da, dum, da dum, da dum). But of course, as is the style with Chopin, the march breaks into a beautiful 4th movement that carries with it many of the hopes and dreams of Poland.

Impromptu Op 142, No 2, in A-Flat Major - Franz Schubert
Just one of those tunes that is fun to play, and really sticks with you. Added bonus: a true lady killer. I participated in a "create your own flavor" contest held by Baskin Robbins a few years ago, but my "Schubert Sherbert" didn't take off.

Aufschwung - Robert Schumann
It's humorous really, how desperately Schumann clinged to his famous contemporaries (Chopin, Liszt, Hummel...) while he himself was merely a music critic with a group he called the "The companions of David". He wouldn't become famous until much later (post mortus even?). Little known fact: You can deform your hand by religiously cramming wooden wedges between your fingers every night while you sleep, a lesson Schumann learned in trying to attain a greater hand span.

And now for something completely different

Hedwig - The theatrical soundtrack
If you aren't turned off by homosexuals, then you're gay. No, what I really mean to say is, if ass pirates don't make your skin crawl, you should definitely check out this movie. It originated as a stage show written around contemporary rock music, something that had never been done before. The songs are catchy, and should strike a pleasing chord with most everyone. BUT I warn you not to watch this movie around...parents, younger siblings, anyone that would raise a brow at a lead star named Hansel and his U.S. Military lover...ahem.

Yeah -- he does sound like MikeStipe to me, too... Maybe he's the Welsh Michael Stipe! Maybe he has a secret hide-out on Wellsian Way!

I haven't heard anything about the new Supergrass one... I haven't heard anything from them in a long time -- or listened to them for quite a while. What about Fountains of Wayne? Don't they have something new coming out soon?

By the way, I love Idlewild's song, "American/British." It's neat.

From Idlewild, "Out of Routine" sounds rocking and is it me or does the lead singer sound liek Mickeal Stipe of REM? Wierd. "A Way of Letting Go" sounds rockin too. Heard anything about the new SUpergrass album? SHould I even bother with the Zwan album? Get the Special Goodness CD in mid-March, or get the single at Hot topic for .99 cents! For reals.

Okay -- so we were talking music... speaking of which, Idlewild's new album is out in a month -- and the reviews are great. A2 D2 -- you got it yet on mp3? It looks like it's been out in Europe since July.

Also, here's a pretty cool resource to add to your aresnal: metacritic.com It's just been revamped and it's pretty cool now. It's basically the quickest way to sift through a ton of reviews of basically any media -- all at once, movies, music, dvds, etc...

Yesterday I said we were moving to mathcaddy.com -- I even had it all there - and ready to host uploaded images, etc... but then...

wrong, buddy. too bad your domain expired the day you got it online! ... it will be back up shortly, though.

Okay -- I'm a "trendy" kind of guy as far as music is concerned (that's what Kristi says, anyway)... Meaning that I listen to only a select group of tracks and albums over a specific period of time and then I move on to newer fresher stuff - always enjoying and appreciating the old, but continuously loving the new. Therefore, some of these listed here are not really "2002" ... they're probably more like "January 2003," but I've always been evangelistic when it comes to music that gets me going right now - at least ever since I convinced 35 people to buy Oasis' What's the Story Morning Glory when it first came out.

1. Wilco, Wilco, Wilco! - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - So what if every reviewer in the world listed it at the top of their top of 2002? They were right! This is an album that I bought when it came out, but it took me almost 3 months to love it. Listen to it a few times and you'll fall in love with it, easily. (It also made me listen to their previous album, Summerteeth, a heckofalot more - and that album is also off-the-charts amazing. Some of my personal favorites: "Heavy Metal Drummer," "Pot Kettle Black," "War on War," and "I'm the Man Who Loves You." -- plus "Can't stand it," "She's a jar," and "Nothingsevergonnastandinmywayagain" from Summerteeth. Seriously, everysingleone of these songs is incredible. By the by, I gotta give some props to A2 D2 for introducing me to Wilco like 3 years ago.

2. Flaming Lips - "Flight Test" - Yes, two entries for the Flaming Lips (see #6 below). I didn't even pay much attention to this song... it starts so weird for the first 5 seconds that I alwasy skipped past it. Then I listened to it. Once. And it vaulted from nowhere to Number 2. It's easily the best song here, to me... but only for the sheer volume of goodness in Yankee Hotel Foxtrot does this not make #1. Wow! Unbelievably awesome song... It's so simple, yet great. The lyrics are sweet, too, once you've whittled them out among all the other sounds in the song. (I didn't even discover this song until 2-24, which is the reason there are now eleven listed here instead of 12.)

3. Coldplay - "A Rush of Blood to the Head" - At first, all I listened to was the first track, "Politik." Then I actually took the time to listen to the rest of the CD. It's easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. "In My Place," "Clocks," and "Warning Sign" are the highlights -- but we're talking an outstanding album - every single song. No weak ones. Not a bit.

4. Pete Yorn - "For Nancy" - Uh, okay, so he sucked in concert - but there wasn't a single song I listened to as many times as this one last year. It just has this incredible "whammo" on my mind and spirits. It raises me up out drearies and into a "go-get-'em" attitude... and how!

5. Rilo Kiley - "Wires and Waves." - Absolutely amazing song. I just can't get over this song. It's... it's... amazing!

6. Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - This is initially pretty weird - almost as weird as Sparta/At the Drive In/And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead... BUT! It's great... especially "Do You Realize?" and "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots."

7. Hillsongs Australia - "All of My Days" - Just good -- especially when the drums get crackin'.

8. Of Montreal - "Penelope" - Drop-dead hilarious... and very catchy. Like a Beatles cover band comprised of clowns playing "I Am the Walrus" and "Obla Di Obla Da" at the same time. (not that that would neccesarily be catchy -- but somehow Of Montreal manages to make it so.

9. Lemon Jelly - Kind of quirky British stuff. Definitely creative. Great music to listen to while you work or do something relatively boring. Higlights: "The Staunton Lick," "Nice Weather For Ducks," and "Ramblin' Man."

10. Sondre Lerche - Lots of his stuff, but the best is "Sleep on Needles."

11. Hot Hot Heat - "Bandages" - Cool, fast, catchy, neat.

Those were the first 10 just off the top of my head -- if I looked at my Winamp playlist I could probably pick out a bunch more... but these are really good. I also have to second a lot of the stuff that A2 D2 mentioned... particularly Queens of the Stone Age and Nada Surf's "Let Go." I just figured he did a good job of promoting them... so I might as well skip 'em.

Don't you ever think that someday some RIAA guy or somebody will step out in a Congressional hearing and admit, "That's it. It's mathematically impossible to create any more good music that sounds new and doesn't rip anyone off. We might as well go back to letting tone-deaf people sing." I'm continually surprised that there's still good music coming and coming and coming! When will it ever end???

[Posted by adam.b at 1:47 PM] comment on [*My* top ten... no, wait - make that eleven!!] permalink
1. Sparta - Wiretap Scars (the remants of At The Drive In, catchy melodies, screaming with intense lyrics, all around an incredible album.
2. Nada Surf - Let Go (a super mellow album with probably the most played song in my head "Blonde on Blonde", similar to Belle and Sebastian)
3. RHCP - By the Way (this never gets old, and super underrated, especially like "Tear")
4. The Juliana Theory - Emotion is Dead (really good musicians doing really good shtuf)
5. The Special Goodness - Life goes by (just got the single to their new album for .99 cents, I dig it)
6. Weezer - Lets Sew our pants together (this song sticks because he screams and it sounds good, almost Cobainish, kinda scary)
7. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf (the most rockingest trippy album Ive heard, plus they had the best drummer play, Dave Grohl!)
8. The Shins - Oh Inverted World (incredible, low key, jangly pop that is a refreshing change every now and again)
9. Loudermilk - Red Record (I know I had it on my hard drive but I had to buy it still. It rocks)
10. Sigor Ros ( ) (If you want to space out for awhile and think beautiful things and maybe are into radiohead and nachos then pick this up)

Okay -- at first I was excited about this news -- Sonics trade Payton to Bucks for Allen until I got down to the second paragraph! I cannot believe the Sonics got rid of Desmond Mason to get Ray Allen. I mean, I love Ray Allen. I was just about ready to eat a napkin when I saw that the Sonics were getting him for Payton, who I don't care too much for. But... but... couldn't they have kept Desmond? Crap!

Okay, for those of you who don't know, here's a "Fun Fact." You can make links to other places on the web to spice up your blog entries. You can either use the "link" key in making your entries -- or you can just type in the command as follows:

<a href="http://www.site.com">link</a> ---> this simply looks like this: link

Just make sure that you put the quotes where they go and that you close the link with the </a> You can do some funny stuf with this if you play with it as you write your blogs up. For example, look at the edits I did to Mesmer's and A2 D2's entries... (and pretty much everyone else's as well - but Dan's and Adam's are the best.)

So yea I just watched this sad/disturbing/kinda cool video directed by Mark Romanek for the new Johnny Cash song "Hurt" which is a cover of the same song by Nine Inch Nails. You can view it via Quicktime here. Has anyone been to a Baja Fresh Mexican Grill yet? They're owned by Wendy's and supposed to be good.

A "blog," if ya don't know, is short for a "web log" - like a captain's log, only we're not captains. you're s'posed to say funny stuff about your day or funny stuff you saw on the internet, or review cool music you're listening to-- stuff that would (or might) be interesting for other people to hear. You edit it through blogger.com and you access it (to read it) at mathcaddy.blogspot.com... at least until I set it up at mathcaddy.com.

You should check out some of the "blogs of note" at blogger.com. For example, here's humor columnist Dave Barry's Blog. And here's EPN World Reporter's article regarding blogs.

Use titles for your blogs!

Oh yeah -- whatever you do-- don't boreblog the crap out of us. Please?
